The Candied Yam
located in the Breton Meadows Plaza 2305 44th Street Southeast Grand Rapids Michigan 49508 offers local fare of the much loved comfort soul food meals we only see on TV. There’s no need to go down South to grub on delicious macaroni and cheese, country fried chicken, smothered pork chops with gravy, fish, meatloaf, fresh black eyed peas, greens with smoked turkey and even vegan options. Signature items such as soul food wraps, sweet potato cornbread muffins, down home style desserts and other Creole favorites will also grace the menu.
The Candied Yam is a partnership between Jessica Ann Tyson and Jermone T Glenn as a joint venture to serve the southern cuisine missing from the Grand Rapids area restaurants landscape.
is a graduate of the Secchia Institute for Culinary Education. Chef Stapert has received various accolades nationally from Black Enterprise and locally throughout West Michigan from the Grand Rapids Press, Grand Rapids Times, Muskegon Chronicle, the Kalamazoo Gazette and was awarded ‘Best Chicken Wings’ from Grand Rapids Magazine consecutively in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
About The Chef
Chef Donell Harris, affectionately known as “Chef D” has worked in the hospitality and customer service industry for 16 years in various places across the United States. His career started by cooking for family and friends using ideas and concepts from his mother and grandmother. With his wife’s help and her eye for design, he launched his brand “Chef D” and the “Chef D Experience” by providing sweets for events and special occasions. In his first year of operation, he sold over 2,000 cupcakes and a little over 200 cakes.
